You have the power to improve your community through action
Ready to help your community and earn one of the highest awards in Girl Scouting? Cadettes can team up with a small group of Girl Scouts or work independently. The Silver Award is a Take Action project that shows leadership and makes a sustainable impact on a root cause you are passionate about.
You can become a Silver Award Girl Scout if you:
- Are in sixth, seventh, or eighth grade
- Are a registered Girl Scout Cadette
- Have completed the Bronze Award, a Cadette Leadership Award, or a Cadette Journey
How to earn the Girl Scout Silver Award
- Download the Cadette Workbook to learn more about the Silver Award process, and register for an optional upcoming workshop.
- Find an issue you care about.
- Build your Silver Award team (no more than four Girl Scouts) or decide to go solo.
- Explore your community and think of how that issue affects your community.
- Choose a Silver Award project that can lead to lasting change.
- Develop your project. A Silver Award Project should take at least 50 hours per girl.
- Make a plan and submit your project proposal.
- Put you plan into motion.
- Reflect, share your story, and celebrate.
- Share with us! Tell us all about your project by filling out your Final Report.

Prerequisite Update
We have new prerequisite opportunities! Journeys will be retired on October 1, 2026. In their place, Girl Scouts is launching new Leadership Awards for Juniors through Ambassadors. Learn more.
**If you have currently completed or are in the process of a Journey, that Journey will be accepted as a prerequisite for a Highest Award until September 30, 2026.**
