Ways to Participate in Girl Scouts

You have options for how your girl participates in Girl Scouts!

Self-Directed Girl Scouts (Grades K-12)

She doesn't have to be part of a troop to be a Girl Scout!

Your girl can participate as a Juliette, which is how we describe self-directed Girl Scouts (also referred to as IRMs or individually registered members). Juliettes were named after Juliette Gordon Low who founded our movement in 1912.

Juliettes have the power to build their very own Girl Scout experience by completing Journeys, earning badges and attending council programs that appeal to their interests.

She can also participate in the Girl Scout tradition of community service through take action projects and earning the earning the highest awards.

Traditional Troops (Grades K-12)

Girl Scout troops are groups of girls (often linked with a specific grade and school or community area) that meet once or twice a month and are led by a troop leader with the help of other parent/caregiver volunteers.

Currently troops are meeting virtually, in-person outdoors, or a hybrid of the two.

After providing us with some information about your girl, you’ll be brought to our online catalog where you will see troop options in your area.

In our troop catalog you may see existing troops that are welcoming new girls or new troops that are in the process of forming.

Not sure which one to pick? Select our “Looking for a troop near _______” option. We’ll help you find a troop!

Prefer to start a troop of your own? Selecting “I want to lead her troop near _______” is the first step in getting you started as a troop leader.
