Chronic Health Awareness
Silver Award Project by Anaya S.
About: My Silver Award Project raises awareness about chronic conditions, especially invisible illnesses like dysautonomia and mental health disorders, and helping students understand their real impact.
Through my research and personal experience, I’ve learned that lack of awareness can delay diagnosis and make people feel invalidated. I want to help change that by making students more informed and more empathetic.
My project was creating and presenting an interactive health fair exhibit focused on chronic conditions. At the fair, I educated students about both physical and mental chronic illnesses, including dysautonomia (like POTS), OCD, and anxiety disorders.
What skills did you gain and how will these skills help you in the future?
Through this project, I gained skills in leadership, communication, organization, and public speaking. I learned how to research reliable information, create educational materials, and work collaboratively with school staff to plan an event. These skills will help me in the future by improving my confidence, teamwork abilities, and ability to advocate for issues that are important to me. I also learned how education and awareness can be used to make a positive impact in a community.
Way to make difference, Anaya.
