Each year, Girl Scouting formally recognizes those Girl Scout adult members whose accomplishments are so significant, that they should not go unrewarded or unnoticed.
Girl Scouts of the USA and Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana have a formal system for honoring Girl Scout adult members. Awarded recognitions provide the means to acknowledge individuals and service teams for their unique and outstanding service.
Nominations for awards can be initiated by Girl Scout adult volunteers and/or staff. The selection of recipients is made by a task group of volunteers. This increases the significance of the honor, as the recipient’s peers have set aside the time to review the documents submitted in nomination.
The Appreciation Pin, Honor Pin, Thanks Badge, Thanks Badge II, and President’s Award are GSUSA awards that require board of director approval. These awards require nomination forms and letters of endorsement to be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on the last business day in January.
In addition to the GSUSA awards, there four additional awards that only require approval at the SUVA (Service Unit/VISTA/Association) level. In this category are two GSUSA awards, the Outstanding Leader Pin and Outstanding Volunteer Pin and two new Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana Awards, the Hidden Heroine Award and the New Found Treasure Award. Deadline for submission of approved nominations for this category of awards is March 12.
