Council Archivists Team

Girl Scouts

The Archivists Task Team preserves the history of Girl Scouts of the USA as well as the history of the seven councils that merged to form the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana. The purpose of this task team is to assemble a collection of documents, letters, records, publications, uniforms, badges, pins, and other memorabilia that represents the rich history and tradition of Girl Scouting. In addition to preserving our history, interacting with girls is an important aspect of this task team. The archivists will provide assistance to girls working on history badges, patches and service projects, as well as educate the community on the history of Girl Scouting.

The GSGCNWI Archivists Task Team is inviting applications for the positions of Volunteer Council Curator and Volunteer Council Historians. The council curator is responsible for planning and overseeing the arrangement, cataloguing, and exhibition of the council archives collection. The council curator, with the support of the council historians, will acquire and preserve important documents and other valuable items for permanent storage or display. As we begin to make preparations to mark the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouting, we must ensure that our Legacy Councils’ history along with the history of Girl Scouts of the USA is preserved for future generations of Girl Scouts.

We recognize that many of our legacy council volunteers have worked tirelessly to catalogue and maintain historical documents, and we hope that you will continue working with the newly realigned council in preserving our ongoing history as we enter this new era. The council curator and her team of historians will be responsible for the care and chronicling of historic documents, materials, and objects contained in the council’s archives collection. While previous archiving experience is not necessary, applicants should possess a desire to preserve, protect, and care for our Girl Scout Legacy.
