CEO Honored as Executive of the Year

2011 PRSA CHICAGO SKYLINE AWARDS TO HONOR BEST IN PUBLIC RELATIONS

GSGCNWI CEO to be Honored as Executive of the Year

CHICAGO, May 16, 2011 – The Public Relations Society of America Chicago chapter (PRSA Chicago) will honor the best communications practitioners, campaigns and tactics in the Chicagoland area at the 2011 Skyline Awards Gala on May 25. The Skyline Awards celebrates communications professionals from the private and public sectors, recognizing the innovation, leadership, and commitment of individuals and organizations in the region’s public relations community.

Each year, PRSA Chicago awards a regional executive who has made outstanding contributions to his/her organization, the community and the public relations industry as a whole during the past year. This year’s Executive of the Year honoree is Maria E. Wynne, CEO of Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana, the largest Girl Scout council in the country.

Ms. Wynne was selected for using components of public relations to successfully lead and energize the organization’s members. She is the first CEO to head the council following an unprecedented merger of seven independent councils on July 1, 2008. Under Ms. Wynne’s leadership, the council defied a national trend of decreased membership for first-year merged Girl Scout councils. The Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana experienced a one percent membership increase.

“Maria demonstrates effective communications every day in her work with employees, volunteers, parents and
Girl Scout members,” said Amy Littleton, PRSA Chicago president. “She has successfully led efforts to expand leadership and development opportunities for young people, as well as increased diversity by bringing girls together from different backgrounds and communities.”

The PRSA Chicago Skyline Awards are presented annually to organizations and individuals that have successfully addressed contemporary issues with exemplary professional skill, creativity and resourcefulness. Entries are evaluated for their strategic nature of public relations programs using four key components — research, planning, execution and evaluation. This year, finalists were selected from a record 125 entries.

Admission to the 2011 PRSA Chicago Skyline Awards Gala includes a pre-ceremony cocktail hour and silent auction.

The dinner celebration and awards ceremony will be held at Hilton Chicago, Continental Ballroom, 720 South Michigan Avenue, Chicago on May 25, 2011 at 5:30 p.m. The event is being sponsored by Synaptic Digital.
